Cases/Treatments

Migraine is a very bad type of headache which is severe and tends to recur. With migraine, one may feel nauseated and might vomit. The pain is usually on one side of the head and one may be very sensitive to bright lights and noises

WHAT CAUSES MIGRAINE
Each person is different but there are some “trigger” factors which are commonly involved:

  • Tiredness & Physical exhaustion
  • Stress, anger and conflict.
  • Too much, too little or interrupted sleep.
  • Climatic change
  • Monthly periods, birth control pills, oestrogen therapy.
  • Hunger, fasting, specific foods or beverages.

What happens during migraine
According to theory, the nervous system responds to a trigger such as stress by creating spasms in the nerve-rich arteries at the base of the brain. The spasms constrict several arteries supplying blood to the brain, including arteries from the scalp and neck. As these arteries constrict, the flow of blood to the brain is reduced. At the same time, platelets clump together and release a chemical called serotonin. Serotonin acts as a powerful constrictor of arteries further reducing blood and oxygen supply to the brain. In reaction to the reduced oxygen supply, certain arteries within the brain dilate to meet the brain’s energy needs. This dilation spreads, finally affecting neck and scalp arteries. Doctors believe this dilation causes the pain of migraine.

HOW IS A MIGRAINE HEADACHE TREATED
There are many things you can do to reduce the pain of migraine. The most common methods of preventing and controlling migraines and other vascular headaches include:

  • Medication

In migraine, medicine can help in two ways: to prevent the attack or to relieve symptoms after the headache occurs.
If one suffers infrequently from migraines, medicine can be taken at the first sign of a headache to stop or ease the pain. If one suffers frequently from migraines, both pain relief and prophylactic measures may be used.

  • Stress reduction and advised for good sleep
  • Elimination of certain foods from the diet
  • Regular exercise, such as swimming or vigorous walking

Temporary relief can sometimes be obtained by using cold packs or by pressing on bulging arteries found in front of the ear or the painful side of the head.

Homoeopathic treatment of migraine:
In modern times this problem of migraine has increased to a large extent. Hundreds of patients who don’t get relief with allopathy are cured successfully with homoeopathy. I have seen in my daily practice that in migraines more than 80% cases suffer from left sided migraine. Most common medicines for migraine are Gelsemium, Bryonia, Bell, Sulphur, Natrum mur, Nux vomica, Aurum met, Tarentula H. etc. In all the migraine cases, we ask the patient about his condition during headache. Very rarely we ask for general symptoms like anger or nature etc. There are some common symptoms in every case.

When a case is treated homoeopathically, I have seen two things. One, either the patient gets 100% relief with these medicines or if he doesn’t get total relief, the intensity of pain is reduced and the time gap between the attacks is reduced. This has been seen practically.

The common symptoms are as follow:

  • The patient wants to be quiet
  • The patient wants to be quiet and desires repose and tranquillity
  • He doesn’t want to speak to anyone
  • He doesn’t want to speak to anyone and wants to be alone
  • He feels irritated when spoken to
  • He doesn’t want to be disturbed
  • He wants to lie in the dark and doesn’t want to talk to anyone
  • He likes darkness
  • He has a desire for amusement
  • He has no desire for amusement
  • He has a desire for sleep
  • He has a desire to remain in bed
  • He has an aversion to children

The cure for migraine can be obtained from the symptoms given above. Given below are some of the cases of migraine treated by me. Only the main points and not the whole case history have been mentioned.

Migraine
A lady aged 30 years came to me for the treatment of migraine. She used to get a severe headache after every few days. She had pain in her eyes with nausea and vomiting.

She said that when she has headache, she takes a nap. There should be no disturbance and no one should talk to her at that time.

I asked her if she prefers light or darkness in the room when she wants to lie down. She replied that she doesn’t need darkness. There should be light.

Migraine

Narrating her case, she told me that during headache, she wants to hold onto something tightly. Holding something tightly makes me feel better. I want to hide my aching head.

I speak a lot. I am very religious. Nowadays, my memory is getting weak. Few days ago I forgot the way to my own house. Instead of turning left, I turned right.

Prescription: Sepia 30

Pain as it is, Sepia 200 for a week.
